The heart of our business is to provide practical and effective solutions to the problems that exist in the implementation of ACCROPODE ™, ACCROPODE ™ II, CORELOC, ECOPODE ™ or X-bloc ® blocks.

 

A major problem facing companies is the realization of the underlayer. CLAS provides a solution that overcomes this problem and has many other advantages over a conventional rockfill underlayer.

 

 

1 PRESENTATION OF THE ARTIFICIAL UNDERLAYER

 

CLAS and its partners have developed an artificial underlayer that mimics the roughness and porosity of a natural underlayer while respecting the tolerances provided in the CLI and DMC TIDs, by design and by manufacture.

 

The hardness of the concrete is perfectly controlled. The pads which constitute the sub-layer can be connected to each other by ropes, cables of different types or cast on a geotextile specially provided for this purpose.

 

The lifespan guaranteed by the manufacturer can be extended to 100 years, as was the case for the battery protection mats for the New Coastal Route viaduct on Reunion Island.

 

The artificial underlayer is compatible with all types of blocks from the ACCROPODE ™, ACCROPODE ™ II, CORELOC ™, X-bloc ® or other family.

 

The artificial underlayer is placed in plates on the core of the dike as the core advances.

 

With our assistance, installation is quick and easy

 

The appearance is very close to existing technology but designed to receive ACCROPODE ™, ACCROPODE ™ II, CORELOC ™, X-bloc ® or other blocks:

 

 

The artificial underlayer can be placed in one or two layers, depending on the design specifications which may or may not provide for insulation of the core with a geotextile. The porosity and water flow between the studs can be increased or reduced depending on the designer's specifications.

 

The installation procedure is defined, assisted and controlled by an inspector accredited by CLAS.

 

2 THE INSTALLATION OF ACCROPODE ™, ACCROPODE ™ II, CORELOC, ECOPODE ™ OR X-BLOC ® IS EASY

 

ACCROPODE ™, ACCROPODE ™ II, CORELOC ECOPODE ™, X-bloc ® or any other single-layer block which requires good nesting are very difficult to install if the underlay does not meet the required tolerances. The consequences can be a very slow installation of the ACCROPODE ™, ACCROPODE ™ II, CORELOC ECOPODE ™ or X-bloc ® blocks but also non-conformities which will present a risk for the stability of the shell.

3 STABILITY OF THE ARTIFICIAL UNDERLAYER

 

Another problem arises during construction when the natural riprap underlayer is laid but not yet protected by ACCROPODE ™, CORELOC ™ or X-bloc ® and the riprap is displaced by a storm. The ACCROPODE ™ II, CORELOC ™, or X-bloc ® blocks already placed underwater are then covered by the materials of the underlay and the core.

This happens on almost all projects, which is why it is also explained in the CLI TID:

 

 

 

 

The company is then obliged to remove all ACCROPODE ™ II, CORELOC ™ or X-bloc ® blocks, all the riprap covering them, it must re-profile the core and rebuild the underlayer.

 

Our artificial underlayer avoids this problem because the concrete pads are connected together and cannot move individually or in bundles.

 

 

4 PROTECTION OF THE ENVIRONMENT

 

Quarries destroy mountains and disfigure the environment

 

 

Truck transport destroys roads and pollutes the air. Its carbon footprint is high.

 

 

 

5 THE ADVANTAGES OF USING OUR ARTIFICIAL UNDERLAYER

 

1 No risk of the sublayer being rejected for non-compliance.

 

2 No risk of installing ACCROPODE ™, CORELOC ™ or X-bloc ® outside the profiles because of a non-compliance of the underlay.

 

3 No risk of ACCROPODE ™ II, CORELOC ™ or X-bloc ® sinking into the underlayer.

 

4 No risk of the underlay and the core covering the ACCROPODE ™ II CORELOC ™ or X-bloc ® blocks in the event of a storm. The artificial underlay is stable even in strong swells before being covered by the shell.

 

5 The laying of the artificial underlay by panels is very fast.
