ARTIFICIAL SUB-LAYER FOR DIGE CONSTRUCTION USING ACCROPODE ™, ACCROPODE ™ II, CORELOC ™, ECOPODE ™ OR X-BLOC ® BLOCKS

 

The heart of our business is to provide practical and effective solutions to the problems that exist in the implementation of ACCROPODE ™, ACCROPODE ™ II, CORELOC, ECOPODE ™ or X-bloc ® blocks.

A major problem facing companies is the realization of the underlay. CLAS provides a solution that solves this problem and has many other advantages compared to a conventional underlayer of natural rocks.

 

1 PRESENTATION OF THE ARTIFICIAL UNDERLAYER

 

CLAS and its partners have developed an artificial underlayER which reproduces the roughness and porosity of a natural underlayER, while respecting the tolerances provided in the TID of CLI and DMC, by design and by manufacture.

 

Concrete hardness is perfectly controlled. The studs which constitute the underlayer can be connected together by ropes, cables of different natures or cast on a geotextile specially provided for this purpose.

 

The lifespan guaranteed by the manufacturer can be increased to 100 years, as was the case for the protection mats of the New Route du Littoral viaduct on Reunion Island.

 

The artificial underlayer is compatible with all types of blocks from the family of ACCROPODE ™, ACCROPODE ™ II, CORELOC ™, X-bloc ® or others.

 

The artificial underlayer is laid in plates on the core of the breakwater as the core advances.

The aspect is very close to existing technology but designed to receive ACCROPODE ™, ACCROPODE ™ II, CORELOC ™, X-bloc ® or other blocks:

 

The artificial underlayer can be laid in one or two layers, depending on the design specifications which may or may not include insulating the core with a geotextile. The porosity and the flow of water between the studs can be increased or reduced according to the designer's specifications.

The installation procedure is defined, assisted and controlled by an inspector accredited by CLAS.

2 THE INSTALLATION OF ACCROPODE ™, ACCROPODE ™ II, CORELOC ECOPODE ™ OR X-BLOC ® IS EASY

ACCROPODE ™, ACCROPODE ™ II, CORELOC ECOPODE ™, X-bloc ® blocks or any other onelayer block which require good interlocking are very difficult to place if the underlayer does not meet the required tolerances. The consequences can be a very slow placement of ACCROPODE ™, ACCROPODE ™ II, CORELOC ECOPODE ™ or X-bloc ® blocks but also non-conformities which will present a risk for the stability of the armour.

3 STABILITY OF THE ARTIFICIAL UNDERLAYER

Another problem appears during construction when the underlayer in natural rocks is laid but not yet protected by ACCROPODE ™ CORELOC ™ or X-bloc ® and riprap is moved by a storm. The ACCROPODE ™ II, CORELOC ™ or X-bloc ® blocks already placed underwater are then covered with the materials of the underlayer and the core.

This happens on almost all projects, which is why it is explained in the CLI TID:

Our artificial underlayer avoids this problem because the concrete studs are interconnected and cannot move individually or in bundles.

 

4 PROTECTION OF THE ENVIRONMENT

Quarries destroy mountains and disfigure the environment

Truck transportation destroys roads and pollutes the air. Its carbon footprint is high.
